Painting is learning says Whitney Abbott. “Every new painting is a new way to look at life. It is an adventure, a poem, or a puzzle. I really believe that the challenge which painting brings keeps us alive and curious. It is the closest thing to the sense of discovery and freedom you find as a child exploring a forest. John Muir wrote in a journal in 1913:” “I went out for a walk, and finally concluded to stay out till sundown, for going out, I found, I was really going in.”  Whitney is a member of the Oak Group and is represented by the Easton Gallery in Montecito CA.

For it was in his formative years in Long Beach, CA, where Ken grew up with his feet deeply planted in the surfing culture, that he first learned to express his art talent.  Exploring boundaries between nature and man-made objects, he paints cityscapes, landscapes and interiors with the passionate intensity of an expressionist and the intellectual understanding of a skilled composer. Paul Chamberlain’s love of color and unique compositions have led him to explore both the Plein Air and studio experience.  His California travels, from his local Verdugo Hills and Arroyo Seco, through the Sierras, beaches and cities, have provided him a rich variety of subjects to capture on canvas.

“For me, it all starts with color,  purple shadows on a bridge, orange marigolds in a field or a multi colored tricycle”. The combination of color, interesting subjects and unique compositions all interact to produce the final results in each of Chamberlain’s paintings. “I never know what I’ll come across next to paint. I’m always amazed at the variety of possibilities that pop-up”.  Paul is a member of the California Art Club (CAC) and the Pasadena Society of Artists.

“My passion for art and the outdoors has motivated me to set up my easel on mountain tops and beaches, in rolling hills and canyons, as well as backyard gardens and city streets. Subject matter interests me initially, but soon I am drawn to the effects of atmosphere and light as they embrace form. Composition, color and value control add to the complexity of setting the stage. The medium of pastel is well suited to location painting and I enjoy the tactile spontaneity of direct application and the variety of color and texture.  A member of the California Art Club, PAPA and the Oak Group, she is represented by the Easton Gallery in Montecitio, CA, Coleman Fine Art in Charleston, NC and the Davies Gallery of Fine Art in Genoa, NV.
