California landscape painter Arturo Tello was born on December 5, 1954 in Tulancingo Hidalgo, a town near Mexico City. He began his formal training as a figure painter, but his innate feeling for the land drew him inexorably toward depicting the shifting light and natural forms of his adopted country’s coastline and bluffs. His strong belief in the importance of preserving open spaces led him to help to form the Oak Group.  Affiliated around the venerable Ray Strong, this group of landscape painting friends, works to celebrate and preserve the natural environment through their paintings.  A founding member of the Oak Group, he is represented by the Easton Gallery in Montecito and John Pence Gallery in San Francisco, CA.

Award winning artist, Peggi Kroll-Roberts, was trained at Arizona State University and the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, CA.  Peggi worked as a fashion and advertising illustrator before making the transition into fine art.  Using intense color and value to accentuate her subject, she moved into fine art with a bold palette, a love for small paintings and a very loose style that achieves a lot with a few very energetic brush strokes.  Inspired by her children she paints beach scenes and other aspects of their lives. Peggi is a member of the California Art Club, American Impressionist Society and Signature Member of Laguna Plein Aire Painters.  She is represented by Medicine Man Galleries in Tucson AZ and Santa Fe NM, JH Muse Gallery in Jackson Hole WY, Art Advisory Group in New York, Red Piano Gallery in Hilton Head NC, Thomas Reynolds Gallery in San Francisco, CA and Great Lakes Gallery in Angeles Camp CA.

Robin Purcell

California has always been a mythic land of sunshine that stirred my imagination. A fortunate set of influences helped me arrive at my own style of interpreting the California Landscape. I was probably permanently warped by doing paint by numbers as a child. I fell hard for the work of Redmond and Wendt. Their work helped me to see the landscape as shapes. It is easier for me to control hard edges with watercolor while painting outdoors. These factors led me to develop a style that simplifies what I see and organizes it into shimmering patches of color.
