Dynamic compositions with a unique personal vision is the focus of this small group workshop taught by Christopher Priore and produced by Barbara Nelson.  On location in italy’s Emilia-Romagna region, we will be in the environs of age old villages in the Apennine hills and by the Ardiatic Sea, where life is undisturbed by tourism.  The magic light of central Italy married with “living history” and local familes who have lived there for years will be the subjects you utilize to learn new techniques and practice old skills.  Limited to 6 people.  Open to all levels.

Plein air studies of Northern California

Art in the Open 2012 is Ireland’s 5th annual plein air painting festival and  Europe’s largest. This is an open (unjuried) event with participants from many countries. Learning, sharing and dedicated painting takes place in an atmosphere of fun, camaraderie and Irish ‘craic’.
Workshops and demonstrations, barbecues, music and more. A major exhibition of plein air painting (on Monday 6th August) with cash awards totalling €4000.

Call for Proposals  2012 Cheng Long Wetlands International Environmental Art Project in Taiwan, “What’s for Dinner?”

Artists from all countries are invited to send a proposal for a site-specific outdoor sculpture installation to be created during a 25-day artist in residency (April 12 – May 7, 2012) in Cheng Long, a small rural village near the southwestern coast of Taiwan in Kouhu Township,Yunlin County. This art project is an expansion of the 2010 and 2011 Cheng Long Wetlands International Environmental Art Projects, going into the Village as well as the Wetlands. The selected artists will work with elementary school children and community residents to create large-scale sculpture installations focused on the theme of “What’s for Dinner?”  The artworks should reflect on environmental issues surrounding food production and emphasize organic aquaculture.  Artworks will be in village public spaces, on abandoned buildings, and in the wetlands nature preserve, and artists will use recycled materials and natural materials to create their artworks that will stay on exhibition through 2013.

Elissa Gore paints large atmospheric landscapes. When searching for a new image, she looks for a harmonic moment in nature. She often uses a panoramic format. Resembling a Chinese scroll, it helps viewers imagine moving through these spaces.

Gore’s history includes more than twenty solo exhibits and fifty public collections. She studied at the University of Pennsylvania and taught college art for 20 years. Also trained as a scientific illustrator, she now paints full-time and occasionally teaches workshops in botanical drawing and plein air painting at the New York Botanical Garden and around the country.
