While set in a private home, tucked away from busy downtown Santa Barbara and the shopping districts of Montecito, the Easton Gallery on Hot Springs Road is no secret to Southern California art aficionados. Founded in 1990 by longtime plein-air painter and collector Ellen Easton, this intimate gallery has featured a wide range of distinguished landscape impressionists over the years, including Ray Strong, Arturo Tello, Marcia Burtt and Patricia Hedrick. Today, the gallery represents 22 gifted artists and has also published three books, Ranchos: Santa Barbara Land Grant Ranchos (1996), Gardens of Santa Barbara (2000) and The Santa Clara Valley of Ventura County (2002).
On any given day, the gallery—a sun-filled hacienda that takes in views of a thriving garden courtyard—presents wall upon wall of dramatic and brilliantly hued paintings that capture the essence of California scenery, from the Santa Ynez Mountains to Anacapa Island to the streets of San Francisco. Following a group exhibit of art by John Iwerks, Whitney Brooks Abbott, Glenna Hartmann and Bjon Rye, among many others, Arturo Tello shows some of his best work from October 15 through December 4. The gallery is open 1-5 p.m. on weekends and by appointment. To learn more about Easton Gallery artists and upcoming shows, call 805-969-5781 or visit www.eastongallery.com.
